Welcome

Visiting Pack 825

All Cub Scout age youth (boys and girls) and their families are welcome to visit any of our meetings, and most of our activities. Come any time, the Cubmaster or other leaders will be happy to help get you started in Scouting, and to answer any questions you may have. Please check our calendar for upcoming meetings.

Who can join?

The Cub Scout program is open to all youth in Kindergarten through 5th grade and their families. Cub Scouts are assigned to Dens according to age and skill level.

5th graders can join the Pack in summer or fall as Arrow of Light Scouts, and will transition to a Scout Troop by spring.

Meetings

Our regular meetings are at 6:30 PM on Mondays, at St. George's Episcopal Church, located at 9110 Dorchester Road, Summerville, SC 29485.

The Lion Den meets only twice per month.

We encourage parents to be involved in all activities, including meetings. For the younger Tiger and Lion Cub Scouts, a parent partner is always required to participate in the Scouts' adventures.

In addition to regular meetings, we have activities like camp-outs, hikes, service projects, or other special events about once per month. Please check the Calendar for scheduled activities.

Uniform

Pack 825 has a belt-up uniform policy, meaning we consider Scouts to be in full field uniform when wearing the Cub Scout uniform belt, shirt with patches, neckerchief with slide, and cap (when outdoors). Required patches for new scouts include the World crest emblem, Coastal Carolina Council shoulder patch, red unit numerals (825), and Den numeral (check with the Cubmaster or your Den Leader for your Den number).

Scouts are expected to be in full uniform by the second Pack meeting in the fall, unless otherwise discussed with the Cubmaster.

You can obtain your uniform and rank handbook at the Coastal Carolina Scout Shop located at 9297 Medical Plaza Drive, North Charleston, SC 29406. Phone 843-572-7357.

If purchasing a new uniform is a hardship, please discuss with the Cubmaster or Committee Chair. We may have what you need in the "Uniform X-Change" closet for a modest donation.

Lion Cub Scouts wear an official Lion uniform T-shirt and cap (when outdoors), available from the Scout Shop.

The official activity uniform, sometimes called a Class B uniform, is a navy blue t-shirt with the Pack 825 Cub Scout logo. It is available for order online at https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07PN1S6CY. You can find more options like sweatshirts by searching for "Pack 825 Activity Uniform" at Amazon.com.

Leadership and Volunteers

This is an all-volunteer leadership group. Being directly involved with the Pack is critical to the success of Pack 825 events and the development of the Cub Scouts. Please consider becoming a registered volunteer as a Leader or Committee Member.

We also look to parents to volunteer to organize individual activities like a hike, banquet, or Pinewood Derby. If you can't commit to volunteer year-round, please consider helping with one of these events. The Cubmaster or Committee Chair will have information about what help is needed.

Dues

Annual Pack dues will be announced at the start of the program year, by the first meeting in September. If there are any special circumstances, please discuss with the Committee Chair and Cubmaster. These discussions will remain confidential.

Dues and fundraising cover BSA re-registration fees for the next year.

Youth Protection

The BSA places the greatest importance on creating the most secure environment possible for our youth members. To maintain such an environment, the BSA developed numerous procedural and leadership selection policies and provides parents and leaders with resources for the Cub Scout program.

Youth Protection Training (YPT) is required for all BSA registered volunteers and parents who will interact with the Scouts. New leaders and parents are required to complete YPT as part of registration.

To take Youth Protection training, go to My.Scouting.org and create an account. You’ll receive an email notification with your account information, including a member ID/reference number. From the My.Scouting.org portal, click Menu then My Dashboard from the menu list. The My Training page displays to take Youth Protection training. Upon completion, print the certificate and bring it to the Committee Chair or Cubmaster at the next meeting.

YPT must be renewed every two years. If a volunteer's YPT record is not current at the time of recharter, the volunteer will not be registered.

Every Cub Scout Handbook also includes a booklet, How to Protect Your Children From Child Abuse: A Parent's Guide, providing tips to help parents talk with their sons about child abuse.

Scoutbook

Pack 825 uses the Scoutbook web app to track advancements and awards for our Scouts. We also share Den and Pack communication through the site, and calendar reminders will come mainly through Scoutbook.

This web-based app is free to use for one Scout and one adult, and allows you to track and monitor your son's advancements via phone, tablet, or PC. You can record your Scout's requirements done at home, and leaders will see it in real time.

If you don't have an existing account, sign up at Scoutbook.com and link to Pack 825 (Coastal Carolina Council). If your Scout is already registered, his Den leader or Cubmaster may send you a request to sign up and link to your Scout.

Pack 825 By-Laws

The pack by-laws are the policies by which the Pack is run and the standards of conduct expected of all Scouts, parents, and adult volunteers. The by-laws are approved by the Pack Committee each year, and are distributed to each family to review and become familiar with the policies. The latest revision is available at the link below.
